Inspiration from an Art Heist

Inspiration from an Art Heist

I love to travel and get inspiration for my work through my many adventures. Three years ago today was one experience that was really one of a kind and I wanted to share it with you.

I had the pleasure of traveling back to my home state of MA to celebrate a friend’s engagement. As a lover of Art Museums, True Crime, and all things Mystery I immediately knew this trip would include a visit to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

For those who don’t know about this Museum it is both a stunning architectural space, an incredible collection of art and in 1990 the scene of the most famous unsolved art heist in the United State. It was the single largest property theft in the world.

Today empty frames remain hanging in the Museum as a placeholder for the missing works and as symbols of hope awaiting their return. These empty frames create a visceral response to those who see them, and inspire many artists such as Sophie Calle, artist in residence at the museum.

These beautiful ornate frames were part of the inspiration for my newest scroll pieces, now available in my shop.
